Description
Francisco Bolognesi (1846-1880) was a Peruvian General of Italian descent that defended the city of Arica during the War of the Pacific with Peru and Bolivia allied against Chile. Peru was desperate to maintain the port near Arica to supply army. The situation worsened when Bolivia withdrew from the conflict leaving Bolognesi with merely 1,600 soldiers against the oncoming Chilean army of 8,000. When a Chilean messager demanded his surrender he replied, ”I have sacred duties, and I will fulfill them until the last cartridge has been fired.”
Out-numbered 3 to 1, Bolognesi and his men watered the ground with their blood in defense of their nation and never surrendered. Bologensi’s battle cry become an everyday expression and later the official motto of the Peruvian Military. This handmade Damascus knife, with Damascus bolster and solid rosewood handle reminds us of the strength and determination of Bolognesi. You don’t have to be a general to enjoy this full-tang work of art. A large handle fits nicely into your hand and gives you confidence when wielding this beautiful knife.
